While we were in Gastonia visiting last week, Aunta gave us a really cool present. Instead of the traditional advent calendar, she made us an advent box out match boxes, ribbon, and pretty paper. There is a drawer for every day in December counting down until Christmas. Each drawer has a piece of paper in it with a bible verse written on one side and a family activity for that particular day on the other along with a piece of candy. (Isaac chewed the hard peppermint candy on day 1, so it was promptly replaced with his daily gummy vitamins. That way he still has teeth at Christmas time and mommy remembers to give him his vitamins too!!)

I sneak a peak in the drawer every morning before work to plan for the day's activity, and then at dinner that night we read the bible verse and complete the activity.
Wednesday, December 1st was of course day #1. Our activity was "use puppets to tell bedtime stories". So Grover told us a story about Hoppy the bunny!!
Day #2 - "Have a picnic for dinner"
Hot dogs with Mac & Cheese on the living room floor...good times.
(Please note - there were no "in your underwear" instructions included for this day. Isaac decided that on his very own!)

We are all totally loving the advent box and looking forward to the fun activities in the box over the days leading up to Christmas!
