Lucas 6 Months

Lucas turned 6 months old this month. He is now 18 lbs and 4 oz, and 25 inches tall. He eats homemade baby food and is starting to eat some table food here and there. He has no teeth but loves to chew on things. (The item of choice on this particular day was a plastic ring!) He rolls, scoots, sits up by himself and has started scooting while sitting up. He doesn’t seem to be much for laying on his stomach and crawling. If you hold his hands, he can stand up all by himself. And this week has started to try to pull up on the furniture. What’s left of my sanity will be completely gone once he’s mobile!! I’m loving every minute of being a mother of two and watching my boys grow together.

This picture just makes me laugh. They were watching a Fisher Price GeoTrax video on the television. Isaac seems to be in a trance, but something sure did catch Lucas’ attention!!

3 Year Old Funnies

You just never know what your child is going to say, and last week Isaac was in rare form. Here are just a couple of the conversations that we had that will hopefully brighten your Monday.

Isaac: “Mommy, can we listen to my cd” – Mommy: “sure, which one?” – Isaac: “the help him drink his wine one” – Mommy: “what?” - Isaac: “The help him drink his wine song" - Mommy (after a few minutes of scanning the cds in the truck): “yes, we can listen to 3 Dog Night – Jeremiah was a bullfrog! (aka - Joy to the World)” [My boys know good music!]

One day last week, Isaac’s class seemed to have a rough day and half of them were on yellow by pickup time (meaning it had been a rough listening and most likely a rough playing day at school) Isaac: “Mommy, one day I’m going to stop hitting Charles” – Mommy (thinking it's news to me that you ever hit this kid): “Really? How about we make it today?” Isaac: “okay”

And finally on Friday’s ride home, this one is funny in a couple of aspects. On our way home everyday we pass a house with 2 concrete deer and a Jesus statue in the yard. In our neighborhood we refer to it as the “Jesus and the reindeer house”. A few weeks ago Isaac noticed the deer. Friday, he noticed Jesus was out there but he didn’t recognize him as Jesus. “Mommy, did you see that silly man? He had a sheet on his head!” Jesus is dressed in a blue and white robe. I couldn’t help but chuckle. At least this summer the people that live there aren’t making him hold the garden hose like a few years back!

Hit the Beach!

Aunta, Uncle Mark, Madeline and Audrey have moved to the beach with Uncle Mark’s new job. This past weekend we went down to visit them at Oak Island. The whole family Brian’s and mine were there and we had a great time! We couldn’t have picked a better weekend to visit the beach. The weather was absolutely perfect…high 80s and a cool breeze. The kids had a great time playing together in the sand. It was Lucas’ first time of really playing at the beach since the last time we were there he couldn’t sit up by himself.

It’s funny how things worked out and my sister and I ended up each with 2 kids very close in age to each other. Isaac and Madeline are best friends…even though Madeline will tell you “he’s not my friend, he’s my cousin”!

I think Lucas and Audrey are going to be quite the pair too. Here they are checking out a sand castle. Audrey is trying to convince Lucas that sand tastes good. Just after this picture, he tried a handful and found it quite tasty too!!

And what would a day at the beach be without a little bit of surfing?! Isaac loves to ride the buggy board in the shallow water. Brian ended up getting quite the work out!

We had a fabulous time at the beach and are looking forward to visiting again!

A New Friend

Lucas has started to move about in his crib a lot. One night I went in to check on him before going to bed and realized that he’d found a new friend during his travels. My little snuggle bug…

Fishies!

Lucas and Isaac absolutely LOVE to swim. Today we visited Kim & Gary’s pool while they are out of town on vacation. After waiting out a brief rainstorm, the whole gang had a great time swimming. The best part of the pool according to Madeline and Isaac is the diving board…and boy did they wear it out today!

Lucas decided he’d try out the noodle!

Isaac never ever gets tired, but he enjoyed the rafts too!

Thanks Kim and Gary for letting us “pool sit” this weekend. We all had a great time!!

Audrey’s Birthday Party

Cousin Audrey turns one year old on July the 5th. On Saturday evening we had a party for her at Sim’s Country BBQ in Dudley Shoals, NC. Sim’s is a barn out in the middle of nowhere that serves the BEST western NC barbeque, has an old school bluegrass band, and square dancing for everybody! Anna and I used to go out there when we were kids and it’s one of a few places that hasn’t changed much and is still as fun as I remembered it!

Bike Day!

Friday was “Bike Day” at school. Isaac looked forward to it all week. On Thursday afternoon, we made a trip to the Dollar Tree to buy some 4th of July decorations for his bike. He wanted to decorate it with flowers! So red white and blue flowers and a little creativity by Mommy and here’s your final product. One festive bike and one happy boy ready for a day at school!

Lucas was excited to go to school too. He has recently decided that wearing shades makes the sunshine much more enjoyable.

Grass

You don’t really think of “grass” as being one of a baby’s firsts milestones. But for both of my boys, their first encounters with grass were quite humorous.

Before the days of blogging, this was Isaac’s first up close encounter with grass…

This past weekend, was Lucas’ first encounter with grass. He was not quite as dramatic as his brother.

The good news is that they get used to it and we all get a good laugh in the process!

Let’s Go Camping!

Saturday night on the way to Moe’s for dinner, Brian and I decided it would be a good night for a campout. So, after supper we went home and Brian and Isaac pitched the tent in our backyard. Isaac was quite the little helper!

DSC_0132_3532

Once the tent was up, we drug the sleeping bags out. Both boys were very excited about the whole experience!

DSC_0148_3547

Isaac helped Lucas figure out his very own sleeping bag! He wasn’t so sure about sticking his feet in there.

DSC_0160_3559

DSC_0161_3560

The weather was perfect and both boys did great sleeping in the tent. Lucas fell asleep pretty quickly. Isaac on the other hand had so much fun laying in the tent looking up at the sky. He would gasp and say “look an airplane” then two seconds later gasp “look a firefly” then a few minutes later gasp “look the red light on the tower” (we have a large tower behind our house). It was really cute to watch him explore and see knew things. We will definitely be pitching that tent in the backyard and hopefully at some campgrounds again soon!
