It's a Hat!!

It's not often that I go out and run errands after work, but last night I needed to do some grocery shopping. So, I heated up some ravioli for Isaac and his Daddy to eat for dinner and headed out to Walmart. I hadn't been gone 20 minutes when my cell phone rang. It was Brian, and all he says to me is "you shouldn't turn your back on a baby when he's eating". I, of course, flipped out thinking my son had choked on the ravioli or something. (My husband needs to attend class on how to word things better so your wife doesn't fly into hysterics!) As it turns out, the story was much different.

Isaac ate all of his ravioli and wanted more. So, Brian gave him what was left, which included some extra sauce. Isaac started to eat his second helping of ravioli while Brian turned around to get something in the kitchen. The next thing he heard was Isaac saying "hat, hat". Brian turned around to the following scene:

Isaac's bowl of seconds was now on his head and yes, it was in fact, a hat! You've got to love a kid with a little imagination and a daddy who has presence of mind enough to grab the camera!

Pumpkin Carving

Today, Isaac helped carve his first pumpkin. I wasn't sure exactly how he'd feel about getting his hands all sticky and messy, but it turns out he really liked it!! We cut the tops off and he dug right in. He helped sort the seeds from the "guts" so that we could roast the seeds when we were finished.

When he finished sorting the seeds, I started to carve the face in one pumpkin while he put all the "guts" back into the other pumpkin!! I handed him the pieces I cut out of the face and he thought they were cheese. Brian tried to convince him not to taste it, but Isaac is the type that has to try it for himself!

Isaac loves his new pumpkin friends!!

Mommy's Little Helper

One of Isaac's favorite things to do is help mommy with things around the house. Some times this is more helpful than others, but I enjoy it all the same. For instance, he helps me feed Wripley (our dog) every evening when we get home. Feeding the dog...yep that's helpful, yesterday though I caught him tasting her water too...not as helpful but entertaining. Here are some of the other ways he's found to help out around the house...

Sorting Mommy's pots and pans:

Verifying adequate amounts of paper on the roll:

Swiffering the floors:

Painting a gift for daddy:

Promoting his first crop of honey:
(you didn't know honey goes with Bojangle's and broccoli now did you?)

Window cleaning for his Aunta:

Wiping his finger prints off the hallway wall:

Mowing the backyard:

Grilling the bratwursts:

Scrambling eggs for breakfast:

Supervising daddy doing yard work:

Helping Mommy make tacos:
(the black beans are done!)

Tomorrow Becomes Today!

I've been saying I'm going to start this blog for over a month now. Every night, I sit down for "just a second" and an hour later, I catch myself saying "I'll start it tomorrow". Well tomorrow has just become today. I'm finally sitting here typing!! Now the hard part, where to start and what to say?

There's really no better place to start than with the little boy who came into our lives 17 months ago. The little boy that made me want to sit here and write so that one day he can look back and enjoy the memories like my sister and I do with our parents. The little boy that reminds me every day that God does answer prayers - our Isaac.

Brian and I are truly blessed to have this little bundle of never ending energy and curiosity in our lives. Isaac amazes me in some new way every day. I just never realized how right other parents were when they said the time would fly once you have kids. The first nearly year and a half has flown by in the blink of an eye. That leads me to what I'm hoping to achieve with this blog...maybe not exactly a way to slow down the time, but at the very least a way to attempt to capture it all. It's a new adventure every day!
