First Day of Kindergarten

Today was the BIG DAY...Isaac's first day of kindergarten....and I couldn't have asked for it to go any more smoothly. He was up, dressed and had breakfast in plenty of time to get before school pictures!!

With his 1st day of school sign...

Looking like a big boy with his backpack on!

With little brother, who was just as excited as he was!

Giving the "I'm ready for school" thumbs up!

With his Daddy.

And his favorite one...with his muscle backpack on his front and up so high just like the real Superman!!

Then it was in the truck and off to school. Mommy was nervous the whole way. Yes, he went to daycare when he was little so it's not like I've never left him somewhere before. But for 3 years at daycare, Daddy was in charge of dropping him off because Mommy couldn't handle it! In my defense, Isaac always turned on the tears when Mommy dropped him off because he knew there was a chance I'd cave in and not leave him. The only time he didn't cry when I dropped him off was when I was able to leave him at school in the morning with his best buddy! Well, his best buddy isn't at his school in Wake Forest, so yes, Mommy was worried about drop off. But much to my surprise, once we got there, this is the new version of Isaac that came with us!!

All smiles and excitement!!

He was with Ms. Marven today. She gave him a big hug and showed him to a cubby first thing.

Then he gave Daddy, Lucas, & Mommy a big hug and off he went to color with his classmates! So simple, so easy. As we walked out of the room, I looked at Brian and said "wow! what was that?"....it was way easier than I had anticipated. (Which by the way proves my theory correct....if you worry and dread something enough it hardly ever turns out that bad!)

So just like that, I have a kindergartner! A happy, excited one at that. I could not ask for anything more!

Lucas and I had a fun day together. He did manage to get himself a new toy truck at Walmart today and we had a lunch date that kept us busy too. It was different without big brother around, but definitely not quiet. Lucas found that he actually got time to talk...and talk he did...until he exhausted himself and fell asleep!

I had to wake him up to head to the bus stop to pick up Isaac. The bus ride home went great. Isaac sat right on the front seat and said he had a special seat with a buckle which I thought was really nice. The driver and her assistant took great care of him.

I asked him how his day was when he got off the bus. He replied "It was fun. I was there for a long time!"

A couple other facts from the day:
1) He made some fun friends but he doesn't remember their names yet.

2) His favorite part of the day was recess. Especially when they climbed under the swing set in the shade. He said they shouldn't let them go outside to play when it's so hot!

3) He told his teachers letters, names, and colors. He also counted to 90. (which he refuses to do for me!)

4) He ate 3 chicken nuggets (the 4th dropped on the floor), pineapple (which he refuses for me), and milk for lunch.

5) He rested during nap time.

6) The crackers I bought for him to eat at snack were not the ones that GG had at the cabin Michigan, so we need to go back to the store tomorrow and try again.

7) When they walk in the hall the teacher said to catch a bubble in your mouth. (sneaky idea to keep them quiet!)

He said he had a great day and is looking forward to going back next week! I'm so happy for him....ecstatic for me...and finally able to exhale now that I know this whole kindergarten thing is going to be alright. I think we're all going to be just fine!

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts, texts and prayers over the last couple of days. I would have been admitted to the funny farm without my great friends and family! You all are the best!
